Manor Smile![]() (White Gate Smile x Irvington Nipper)
Foaled 1931
Bred by Mrs. G. A. M. Davison, Unionville, Ontario. Manor Smile was sold as a young pony to Mr. Douglas Slark, Manor Hackney Farm, Jordon Station, Ontario, a breeder and importer of hackney ponies at that time. In 1934, Mr. Slark was in England buying ponies, when he met with Mr. Albert Throup, trainer for the Wylde Green Stud, and arrangements were made for Manor Smile to be shipped to England in 1935 for training and showing. He returned to Canada the following season, and was used at stud in Canada until he was purchased by Mrs. Loula Long Combs of Lee's Summit, Missouri. As a breeding stallion, he was used on both horse and pony mares, with many offspring being shown by Longview Farm. Some of the more notable horse offspring being Vibration, who was sire of Application, Lady Vibration, the dam of Dufferin Gladiator and Dufferin Parade Girl, and Precious Penny, the dam of Lonely Penny. His pony line returned to Canada through the great Mr. Sandman, whose dam, Originality, was sired by Repetition, a son of Manor Smile. There are many other horses and ponies in Canada whose pedigrees can trace back to this well travelled little stallion. (Inducted March 2006) |
